Brits Shines with Career-Best Knock as South Africa Beat West Indies

Tazmin Brits Stars in South Africa's Big Win Over West Indies

Tazmin Brits powered South Africa to a dominant 50-run victory over West Indies in the first T20I at Cave Hill, remaining unbeaten on a sensational 98 off 63 balls. Her innings anchored South Africa’s total of 183 for 6, which proved too much for the hosts, who managed only 133 for 6 in response.

Brits Anchors South Africa’s Innings

South Africa was asked to bat first and faced early setbacks with skipper Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp both falling inside the first five overs to young pacer Jahzara Claxton. However, Brits quickly switched gears, partnering with Nadine de Klerk in a rapid 71-run stand off just 38 deliveries.

While de Klerk departed for 21, Brits remained the constant, launching nine boundaries and four sixes across her innings. Chloe Tryon chipped in with a brisk 16 off nine balls, but it was Brits’ near-century that set the tone.

West Indies Falter Despite Glasgow’s Half-Century

Chasing 184, the West Indies side started with intent but faltered under pressure. Despite scoring 47 in the powerplay, they lost five wickets inside eight overs, including that of their star batter and captain Hayley Matthews.

The only significant resistance came from Jannillea Glasgow, who scored an unbeaten 53 off 44 balls, and Chinelle Henry, who supported with 26 off 32. Together, they added 81 runs for the sixth wicket, but the damage was already done.

With Kapp leading the bowling attack and Claxton’s effort going in vain, South Africa took a 1–0 lead in the series in dominant fashion.
