Suryakumar Yadav Undergoes Successful Sports Hernia Surgery

Suryakumar Yadav Recovers After Successful Hernia Surgery

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is currently in recovery following a successful sports hernia surgery conducted in Munich, Germany. The middle-order star is expected to make a full recovery ahead of his next international assignment.

Standout IPL 2025 Performance Before Surgery

Suryakumar last featured during IPL 2025, where he played a pivotal role in helping the Mumbai Indians reach the playoffs. The 34-year-old right-hander was in sublime form, setting a world record for 16 consecutive 25+ scores.

He ended the season with 717 runs, the highest-ever tally for a non-opener in IPL history and the most runs scored by a Mumbai Indians batter in a single season.

Timing the Surgery with India’s Schedule

India is currently involved in a Test tour of England, running until August 4, and the next assignment is a white-ball series in Bangladesh, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.

Since Suryakumar hasn’t featured in ODIs since the 2023 World Cup final, and isn’t part of the ongoing Test squad, this window provided the perfect opportunity for him to complete the surgery and recover without missing national duties.

Leadership Role and Post-World Cup Transition

Suryakumar assumed the T20I captaincy after India clinched the 2024 T20 World Cup. With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announcing their retirements from the shortest format, a fresh generation has stepped up, led by Suryakumar.

Under his leadership, India’s batting approach has evolved, focusing on aggressive scoring and deep batting depth. The team now regularly breaches the 250-run mark, including a massive 297-run score against Bangladesh in October 2024, the second-highest total in T20 history.
