Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina wants Virat Kohli to be honoured with the Bharat Ratna award. Speaking on Jio Hotstar on Saturday, May 17, Raina said that a legend like Kohli should receive the highest possible honour for his contribution to Indian cricket.
Suresh Raina said during the show
“𝑽𝒊𝒓𝒂𝒕 𝑲𝒐𝒉𝒍𝒊 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑩𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕 𝑹𝒂𝒕𝒏𝒂 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝒈𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕 𝑹𝒂𝒕𝒏𝒂 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅.”
Virat Kohli, who left the shortest format of cricket after winning the T20 World Cup, recently surprised everyone by retiring from Test cricket as well.
Virat Kohli retires from Tests before England tour
Kohli announced his retirement just before the England tour. Talking about the 36-year-old Virat Kohli’s Test career, he scored 9230 runs in 123 matches, during which he had 30 centuries to his name. He was just 770 runs away from the magical figure of 10 thousand runs, but he took retirement without caring about this record.
Let us tell you that in the history of Indian sports, only one player has been awarded Bharat Ratna so far and that is Sachin Tendulkar. In February 2014, the central government recommended the name of this great batsman and the then President Pranab Mukherjee gave him this honor. No athlete has received this prestigious civilian award before or after this.
In the last 5 years, Virat Kohli was not able to do anything special in Test cricket. During this period, only three centuries came from his bat. On the last Australia tour, he was seen getting out behind the wicket in the same manner. After scoring a century in the first match of the series, Kohli could not do anything special on that tour. Virat will now be seen playing only in ODIs.
