Shreyas Iyer's SoBo Mumbai Falcons Lose Mumbai T20 League Final

Shreyas Iyer’s SoBo Mumbai Falcons faced a narrow defeat in the final of the Mumbai T20 League, losing to the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. This marked Iyer’s second T20 final loss in just ten days, following Punjab Kings’ loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad.

Batting first, SoBo Mumbai Falcons posted 157 runs with Iyer contributing a modest 12 off 17 balls. The Maratha Royals, led by Siddhesh Lad, chased the target down comfortably, winning with four balls remaining and six wickets in hand. Iyer’s tournament run wasn’t particularly strong, scoring only 62 runs across five innings, with his highest score being 25.

Iyer Reflects on Loss, Praises Team Effort

Despite the disappointment, Iyer remained optimistic and appreciated his team’s efforts throughout the tournament.

“𝐖𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥. 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐠 – 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭,” 𝐈𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝.

He acknowledged the pain of losing a final but urged his teammates to use the experience as motivation for future tournaments.

“𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕. 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚’𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕.”

While the recent losses may sting, Iyer has enjoyed a successful captaincy stint over the past year. He previously led Kolkata Knight Riders to their first IPL title in 10 years in 2024 and guided Mumbai to triumphs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the Ranji Trophy 2023-24, and the Irani Cup. Most notably, he was also part of India’s victorious Champions Trophy 2025 campaign.
