West Indies Coach Calls for ‘Right Process’ Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

Sammy urges right process after West Indies player allegations

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has emphasized the importance of following the correct procedures after allegations of sexual assault were made against a West Indies player. While he expressed that “justice must be served,” Sammy stressed that the appropriate legal process should be respected.

Allegations and Response from Sammy

A recent report by the Guyana-based Kaieteur News revealed that multiple women had come forward with accusations against the unnamed cricketer, with some claims reportedly dating back to 2023. However, no formal charges have yet been filed.

Sammy addressed the issue ahead of the second Test against Australia in Grenada, saying,

“𝑾𝒆’𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒈𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒂. 𝑰’𝒎 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒚 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔. 𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎, 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅.”

He added,

“𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆. 𝑾𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒅. 𝑯𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆’𝒔 𝒂 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔. On the Age of Allegations and CWI’s Role

When questioned about the age of some allegations, Sammy replied,
“I’m not aware of that part of it.”

He declined to comment on whether Cricket West Indies (CWI) would conduct its own investigation, saying,

“𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏’𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕. 𝑰’𝒎 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒚 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆, 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑰 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒅.”

CWI Statement

A spokesperson for CWI confirmed,
“Cricket West Indies has not received any communication or official information and is therefore unable to comment at this time.”
