The long-standing debate over football supremacy between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo continues. Messi edged ahead by winning the 2022 World Cup, leaving Ronaldo fans eager to see CR7 lift the iconic trophy. However, the Portuguese superstar recently revealed that the World Cup is not the ultimate goal of his career.

Ronaldo on His Priorities: Career Beyond One Trophy

In a candid interview, Cristiano emphasized that a single tournament cannot define a player’s legacy.

“𝑰𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒔𝒌 𝒎𝒆, ‘𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒐, 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑪𝒖𝒑 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎?’ 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒐. 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒎𝒚 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎. 𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒂 𝒇𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒓,” 𝑹𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒅𝒐 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅.

At 40 years old, Ronaldo is far from thinking about retirement. Instead, he is chasing the monumental milestone of 1000 career goals—currently just 42 goals away. He is optimistic about reaching the mark by September 2026, provided he stays injury-free.

Eyes on Trophies and Records

Ronaldo also shared his broader ambitions at the Globe Soccer Awards, expressing his desire to win more trophies while cementing his place in football history.

Currently playing for Al Nasr in the Saudi Pro League, Cristiano is focused on the league title. Al Nasr sits just one point behind leaders Al Hilal, keeping the championship race highly competitive.

“𝑴𝒚 𝒈𝒐𝒂𝒍 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔. 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒎𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒅𝒂𝒚,” 𝑹𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒅𝒐 𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒅.
