Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have announced their retirement from Test cricket, and thus, an era has ended. The legends had said goodbye to the shortest format after India became champions in the T20 World Cup 2024. Now Rohit and Virat will be seen representing India only in ODIs.

Meanwhile, former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has made a big statement about the future of Rohit-Kohli in the ODI format. Gavaskar says Rohit and Kohli will hardly be seen playing in the ODI World Cup 2027.

Will they be able to make the kind of contribution they are making? – Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar says that it all now depends on the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar whether it considers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli worthy of being included in its plans for the ODI World Cup 2027 to be held after two years.

According to an India Today report, Sunil Gavaskar said,

“They (Rohit and Kohli) are doing great in this format of the game. Again, the selection committee will probably be looking at the 2027 World Cup. They will look at ‘Will they be able to make it to the team for the 2027 World Cup? Will they be able to make the kind of contribution that they are making? That will be the thought process of the selection committee. If the selection committee thinks ‘yes, they can’, then both of them will be there for it.”

Sunil Gavaskar Says Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Won’t Play 2027 World Cup

Although personally, Sunil Gavaskar feels that neither Rohit nor Kohli will play in the next ODI World Cup, he also said that if their performance is good, it will be almost impossible to ignore them.

“𝑵𝒐, 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚. 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒕. 𝑩𝒖𝒕, 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒔, 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓, 𝒊𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒚, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎,”
