Rashid Khan

Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan etched his name into the record books by becoming the first bowler to claim 650 wickets in T20 cricket, reaching the landmark during the opening match of The Hundred 2025.

The milestone came in the clash between the London Spirit and the Oval Invincibles at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on Tuesday, August 5. London Spirit, led by Kane Williamson, won the toss and opted to bat. Despite early setbacks, it was Rashid’s brilliance that lit up the game.

Rashid Khan’s Record-Breaking Spell

The 26-year-old leg-spinner began his spell by dismissing Wayne Madsen with the 43rd delivery of the innings. He reached the historic milestone by trapping Liam Dawson LBW shortly after, and wrapped up his spell by removing Ryan Higgins. Rashid finished with exceptional figures of 3/11 in 20 deliveries, which included 15 dot balls.

With this performance, Rashid Khan now has 651 wickets in 478 innings, averaging 18.54, with a strike rate of 16.90 and an economy of 6.57. His T20 career also boasts four five-wicket hauls, making him one of the most consistent and dangerous bowlers in the shortest format.

Invincibles Dominate As London Spirit Collapse

Rashid Khan was well-supported by Sam Curran, who also picked up three wickets, as London Spirit crumbled to 80 all out in 94 balls. Ashton Turner top-scored with a quick 21 off 14 balls, but no batter could really settle.

In response, Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye gave the Oval Invincibles a steady start with a 34-run stand. Though both openers were dismissed by Dawson, a calm partnership between Sam Billings and Donovan Ferreira guided the team home, with six wickets and 31 balls to spare.

“𝑹𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒅 𝑲𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝒖𝒏𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚. 𝑯𝒆’𝒔 𝒂 𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆-𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓,” 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝑺𝒂𝒎 𝑩𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒅𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒕-𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒕.

What’s Next for the Teams?

London Spirit will look to bounce back when they face Welsh Fire on Saturday, August 9 in Cardiff, while the Oval Invincibles will meet Manchester Originals on the same day.
