Barbados Royals 191 for 5 (King 42, Powell 41) beat St Lucia Kings 164 for 9 (David 44, Simmonds 3-28) by 27 runs*
Captain Rovman Powell produced a stunning late flourish, smashing an unbeaten 41 off just 17 balls, as Barbados Royals finally registered their first win of the CPL 2025 season. Despite the much-needed triumph, the Royals remain at the bottom of the table, while David Wiese’s St Lucia Kings stayed on top alongside Nicholas Pooran’s Trinbago Knight Riders, with net run rate separating the two.
Royals Overcome a Shaky Start
Put in to bat, the Royals stumbled early when Quinton de Kock fell to Khary Pierre in the third over. At the end of the powerplay, they were restricted to just 39 for 1. South African wristspinner Tabraiz Shamsi tightened the screws further, claiming Brandon King (42), Kadeem Alleyne (39), and Sherfane Rutherford (16) in a miserly spell of 3 for 26.
“𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑷𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒋𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒂𝒕 120 𝒇𝒐𝒓 5 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 16𝒕𝒉 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒐𝒚𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒅 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒑𝒔𝒆,” 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒓.
But Powell had other ideas. He tore into Alzarri Joseph with two sixes and a four in the 19th over. In the final over bowled by Delano Potgieter, Powell and Green combined for three boundaries and a six, lifting the Royals to 191 for 5.
Green Shines With the Ball
Green carried his momentum into the bowling innings, dismissing Johnson Charles and Roston Chase early. Tim Seifert provided brief resistance with a fiery 24 off 13 balls before Jomel Warrican sent him packing. The dangerous Tim David threatened with a blistering 44 off 28, but Daniel Sams struck at the right time to end his innings.
“𝑻𝒊𝒎 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒂𝒕 94 𝒇𝒐𝒓 6 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕,” 𝑷𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒕-𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒕.
With the Kings needing 98 off the final eight overs, late cameos from Wiese and Joseph weren’t enough. The Royals sealed a 27-run victory — their first of the season — keeping playoff hopes alive.
