Nottingham Shock Liverpool With Stunning Thrashing at Anfield

Nottingham

Nottingham Forest rewrote history last September when they defeated Liverpool at Anfield for the first time since 1969. That loss came during Liverpool’s title-winning campaign and was considered a major upset. Now, one year and two months later, the reigning Premier League champions have been stunned again at home by the very same opponent.

Liverpool entered the match already under pressure after suffering a defeat to Manchester City before the international break. Their situation worsened today (Saturday) as Nottingham cruised to a 3-0 victory, handing Liverpool their sixth loss of the season.
“This defeat leaves Liverpool sliding down the table,” reflects the match summary, as the Reds dropped from 8th to 11th place with 18 points from 12 games.

Meanwhile, escaped the relegation zone thanks to their third win in 12 matches, climbing from 19th to 16th with 12 points.

Clinical Nottingham Punish Wasteful Liverpool

From the opening whistle, Nottingham stayed compact in defense and relied on counterattacks. Their disciplined approach paid off handsomely.

In the 33rd minute, Murillo opened the scoring with a well-placed finish, giving them a surprising but deserved 1–0 lead.

Just moments into the second half, Nicolo Savona struck again in the 46th minute, doubling the advantage and leaving Liverpool rattled.

Despite Liverpool trying to rally, their hopes faded in the 78th minute when Morgan Gibbs-White unleashed a precise left-footed strike to seal the victory.
As one coach noted, “Nottingham took every chance—they were ruthless while Liverpool were hesitant.”

Statistically, Liverpool dominated possession with 74% of the ball, yet their efforts lacked sharpness—they managed only four shots on target. Nottingham, on the other hand, made the most of their opportunities, scoring three goals from seven attempts.

With this result, Nottingham remain unbeaten in their last three meetings with Liverpool, including a 1-1 draw in their previous matchup.
