Norway Close In on First World Cup Since 1998

Norway World Cup: Haaland & Sorloth Lead Qualifiers Win

Norway are on the brink of reaching their first World Cup in 28 years after dominant displays from Erling Haaland and Alexander Sorloth, who both scored twice in a convincing victory over Estonia.
With seven wins from seven qualifiers, Norway remain at the top of Group I, three points above Italy and with a massive advantage in goal difference.

For much of the first half, Norway appeared to be wasting clear opportunities, creating pressure without converting. But the match shifted dramatically after the break.

Second-Half Surge Puts Norway in Control

Sorloth opened the scoring shortly after half-time with a well-placed header, and just minutes later he rose again to score his second, giving Norway the confidence and momentum they needed.

“Once the first goal came, Norway looked unstoppable,”
said one analyst following the match.

Haaland soon joined the scoring action. The Manchester City striker powered in a header from Julian Ryerson’s cross before adding another goal seven minutes later, effectively sealing the result.

Estonia managed a consolation through Robi Saarma, who drilled in a strong finish, but it had little impact on the outcome as Norway moved within touching distance of qualification.

Italy’s late 2-0 win over Moldova—secured by goals from Gianluca Mancini and Pio Esposito in the final minutes—means Norway must wait slightly longer, though Italy would need a near-miracle to close the massive goal-difference gap.

“Qualification now feels like a formality,”
Norwegian fans reacted after the final whistle.
