Former India captain MS Dhoni has reaffirmed his enduring relationship with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), signalling his long-term commitment to the franchise—even beyond his playing career. Despite CSK’s underwhelming 2025 IPL campaign, where the team finished at the bottom of the points table with just four wins in 14 games, Dhoni remains steadfast in his support for the Yellow Army.
Having been the face of CSK since the inaugural IPL season in 2008, he returned to lead the side in 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to an elbow injury. Though the season didn’t go as planned, Dhoni’s recent comments at a private event in Chennai hinted at his continued involvement with the franchise.
“𝑴𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝑺𝑲, 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓. 𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 15–20 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔,” 𝑫𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒊 𝒕𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒉𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒄 𝒄𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒅, 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒋𝒐𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈, “𝑰 𝒉𝒐𝒑𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝑰’𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 15–20 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔!”
Future Role in Yellow: Dhoni Hints at Off-Field Involvement
There was widespread speculation that the 44-year-old might hang up his boots after IPL 2024. However, Dhoni managed to recover well from a lingering knee injury and returned to action. While it remains unclear how long he will continue playing, Dhoni has made it evident that he will remain associated with the franchise in some capacity.
“𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔. 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒚𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒋𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒚,” 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅, 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕.
He also reassured that Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to resume his captaincy duties once fit. In another event, Dhoni avoided addressing his playing future directly but acknowledged CSK’s recent struggles.
“Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us… But what is important is for you to see the learnings,” he remarked, underlining the team’s focus on long-term growth.
