Former India captain MS Dhoni has reaffirmed his enduring relationship with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), signalling his long-term commitment to the franchiseβeven beyond his playing career. Despite CSK’s underwhelming 2025 IPL campaign, where the team finished at the bottom of the points table with just four wins in 14 games, Dhoni remains steadfast in his support for the Yellow Army.
Having been the face of CSK since the inaugural IPL season in 2008, he returned to lead the side in 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to an elbow injury. Though the season didnβt go as planned, Dhoniβs recent comments at a private event in Chennai hinted at his continued involvement with the franchise.

There was widespread speculation that the 44-year-old might hang up his boots after IPL 2024. However, Dhoni managed to recover well from a lingering knee injury and returned to action. While it remains unclear how long he will continue playing, Dhoni has made it evident that he will remain associated with the franchise in some capacity.

He also reassured that Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to resume his captaincy duties once fit. In another event, Dhoni avoided addressing his playing future directly but acknowledged CSKβs recent struggles.
“Yes, the last couple of years have not been good for us… But what is important is for you to see the learnings,” he remarked, underlining the teamβs focus on long-term growth.
