Morocco star Brahim Diaz maintained his sensational Africa Cup of Nations form by scoring the decisive goal in a narrow 1-0 victory over Tanzania on Sunday in Rabat, sealing the Atlas Lions’ place in the quarter-finals.
The Real Madrid midfielder once again proved decisive for the hosts, delivering when it mattered most and keeping Morocco’s title hopes firmly alive.
Diaz Sets Historic AFCON Record
Diaz’s strike was not just match-winning — it was historic. The 24-year-old has now scored four goals in four consecutive AFCON matches, becoming the first Moroccan footballer ever to achieve that feat.
In doing so, Diaz surpassed a long-standing record set by Moroccan legend Ahmed Faras, who scored in three straight games during the 1976 tournament.
“𝑰’𝒎 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒓-𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒔,” 𝑫𝒊𝒂𝒛 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆.
Morocco Golden Boot Charge Continues
The breakthrough arrived in the 64th minute, when Diaz finished brilliantly from a tight angle after being released by right-back Achraf Hakimi. The goal puts the Madrid star alone at the top of the AFCON Golden Boot race.
Morocco now turn their attention to a heavyweight quarter-final clash against Cameroon, who edged South Africa 2-1 to book their place in the last eight.
