Mohamed Salah has apologised to his Liverpool team-mates following a controversial interview at Elland Road, where he claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club. The interview sparked debate among fans and media, putting Mohamed Salah at the centre of attention.
Midfielder Curtis Jones revealed that Salah expressed regret directly to his fellow players. Salah’s comments had suggested broken promises by Liverpool, a lack of connection with manager Arne Slot, and uncertainty about his future. Curtis Jones highlighted that Mohamed Salah’s apology reflected his respect for the squad.
After the interview, Salah was left out of the squad that travelled to face Inter Milan, despite the team’s injury issues. However, the club did not impose any disciplinary measures. This period saw Salah sidelined from key matches, increasing speculation about his status at Liverpool.
Salah returned to the pitch as a substitute in Liverpool’s win over Brighton, before heading off to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations. While it’s unclear if he apologised directly to manager Arne Slot, Jones confirmed the winger spoke to his team-mates.
Curtis Jones on Mohamed Salah’s Attitude
Jones told Sky Sports:
“Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff. Mohamed Salah apologised to us and said, ‘If I’ve affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologise.’ That’s Mohamed Salah for you—always positive, smiling, and committed to the team. He just wants to win, and I don’t think he’ll be the last to speak his mind.”
Jones also added that Salah’s frustration was understandable, having been left out of the team for three consecutive games. He said:
“I get that there are ways to express yourself, but Mohamed Salah wants to play and help the team. Any frustration from us, including myself, has always been from a good place. Salah is back now, we’re gelling well, playing well, and winning games.”
