Manchester United failed to begin 2026 with a winning note as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road. Ruben Amorim’s side, who had also finished 2025 with a draw against Wolves, struggled to assert dominance against a comparatively lower-ranked opponent.
The opening half was largely uneventful, with both teams canceling each other out in midfield. Chances were limited, and neither side managed to break the deadlock before halftime, resulting in a goalless first 45 minutes.
Manchester Second-Half Goals Decide Stalemate
The tempo increased significantly after the restart, with Leeds United showing greater attacking intent early in the second half. Their pressure paid off in the 62nd minute when Brendan Aaronson found the net to put the hosts ahead.
However, United responded quickly. Just three minutes later, Matheus Cunha leveled the score with a precise finish after receiving a long pass from Joshua Zirkzee.

Despite late efforts from both sides, neither team could find a decisive goal, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
League Standings After the Draw
The result saw both teams share the points. Manchester United remain fifth in the Premier League standings with 31 points from 20 matches, while Leeds United sit 16th with 20 points from the same number of games. Arsenal continue to lead the table with 48 points.
