The Premier League leaders saw both Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol forced off in the second half at Stamford Bridge, adding to the club’s ongoing Man City injury woes ahead of a demanding January schedule.
The match ended 1-1 after Enzo Fernandez canceled out Tijjani Reijnders’ opener, but Guardiola stressed the injuries are troubling.
“We’ll see tomorrow. It doesn’t look good for him and Ruben,” Guardiola said. “If Ruben is out, it’s because he felt something.”
He added:
“We already have John Stones out for months, and now Ruben and Josko are injured. Nathan Ake cannot play regularly, but we will stay strong and find a solution. The spirit will be there, and if the spirit is there, we will be there.”
Squad Depth and Man City Injury Woes
City’s squad is already stretched, with injuries to Nico Gonzalez, Mateo Kovacic, and Savinho, while Omar Marmoush and Rayan Ait-Nouri are at the Africa Cup of Nations. Guardiola admitted the situation is a concern:
“Did you see the bench today? Three academy players. We don’t have many players left.”
He hinted that January signings are unlikely, despite the Man City injury woes:
“I don’t think so, but Ruben and Josko are big losses. It’s a partnership we have built.”
Midfield Uncertainty
Guardiola is also monitoring the fitness of Rodri, who recently returned from injury, while Kovacic and Gonzalez remain sidelined.
“Rodri is extraordinary. The big question is whether he can play in three days against a tough opponent. Kovacic and Nico Gonzalez are not ready, so we’ll manage as best we can.”
As Man City injury woes mount, Guardiola faces a critical challenge in keeping the squad competitive during one of the toughest periods of the season.
