Domestic football is finally back after a 34-day halt that followed the national team’s packed fixture schedule. The second round of the league concluded on October 20, and now four Bangladesh Football League matches are set to be played tomorrow across four different venues.
The biggest attraction of the day will undoubtedly be the clash between traditional rivals Abahani and Mohammedan. Mohammedan, who lifted the league title last season after a 22-year drought, has had a disappointing start this time, collecting only one point from two games. Their arch-rivals Abahani are in the same situation, making tomorrow’s match crucial for both sides as they desperately chase three points.
However, Mohammedan face off-field issues, as players have reportedly given the club an ultimatum regarding unpaid salaries.
Elsewhere, Fortis will take on Police FC at the Kings Arena, Bashundhara Kings will meet Arambagh in Manikganj, and Brothers Union will battle Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club in Munshiganj. The third round will continue the following day with Rahmatganj facing PWD in the lone fixture.
New League Logo Debuts Amid Criticism
Although the Premier League season began on September 26, the official league logo had not been used during the first two rounds. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) will finally introduce the new logo from the third round starting tomorrow. The United Group brand Petronas sponsors the league.
However, the logo has already drawn criticism from fans for lacking appeal, despite its months-long development.
“The logo was designed with great care and importance,” said Fahad Karim, chairman of the BFF Marketing Committee.
He added, “If it resembles any app or other brand, it’s purely a coincidence.”
