Kylian Mbappe has arrived in Saudi Arabia ahead of the Spanish Super Cup final, raising hopes of a possible return in the high-voltage El Clásico. Despite being sidelined for several weeks with a foot injury, Real Madrid has included the French superstar in its traveling squad.
Mbappe departed Spain on Friday after taking part in a training session in Madrid. Shortly after landing, he confirmed his arrival on social media, writing, “Salam Alaikum Saudi Arabia,” while greeting fans ahead of the blockbuster clash.
Real Madrid will face Barcelona on Sunday at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, with kick-off scheduled for 1 am Bangladesh time.
Mbappe Fitness Question Marks Ahead of Super Cup Final
Mbappe’s fitness remains the biggest talking point ahead of the final. The forward has been out since December due to a left knee ligament issue and has already missed one La Liga match, along with the Super Cup semi-final.
However, Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso offered a positive update on the situation, saying, “Mbappe is progressing better than expected and will be assessed like the rest of the squad ahead of the final.” His comment has kept the door open for a possible return on the biggest stage.
Mbappe enjoyed a sensational 2025, scoring a record 59 goals in the calendar year and currently leading the league’s scoring charts. He also netted the decisive goal the last time Real Madrid beat Barcelona in October.
Since that defeat, Barcelona have been in dominant form, winning 13 of their last 14 matches, including a stunning 5-0 demolition of Athletic Bilbao in the Super Cup semi-final.
This will be the fourth consecutive Spanish Super Cup final between the two rivals, with Barcelona having won two of the previous three encounters.
