Stalemate as Kings, Mohammedan Fail to Break Deadlock

Mohammedan

The much-anticipated Kings Mohammedan encounter in the Federation Cup ended without a goal as Bashundhara Kings and Dhaka Mohammedan played out a 0-0 draw on Tuesday at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Comilla.

It was the only match of the day, and despite both teams showing plenty of attacking intent, neither managed to break the deadlock.

Missed Chances and Offside Drama

Both teams created several scoring opportunities, with Bashundhara Kings coming closest in the first half. In the 45th minute, Rakib Hossain found the net from a precise left-wing delivery by Faisal Ahmed Fahim. However, the assistant referee ruled the effort out for offside, denying Kings a crucial breakthrough.

A King’s official later said,

β€œπ‘Ύπ’† π’‚π’•π’•π’‚π’„π’Œπ’†π’… π’˜π’†π’π’, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 π’‡π’Šπ’π’‚π’ 𝒕𝒐𝒖𝒄𝒉 π’˜π’‚π’” π’Žπ’Šπ’”π’”π’Šπ’π’ˆ. 𝑢𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 π’…π’‚π’š, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 π’ˆπ’π’‚π’ π’Žπ’Šπ’ˆπ’‰π’• 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒅.”

The absence of Brazilian forward Dorielton was clearly felt. Kings dominated possession and pressed hard, but their finishing let them down, while Mohammedan goalkeeper Sujon produced several key saves to keep his side level.

Late Drama Fails to Decide the Contest

Mohammedan also had a golden chance to snatch victory late in the match. During six minutes of added time, Rahim Uddin broke free on the counter and entered the Kings’ penalty area. Instead of shooting, he squared the ball to Samuel Boateng, who failed to control it, allowing defender Tapu Barman to clear the danger.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, a Mohammedan player admitted,

β€œπ‘»π’‰π’‚π’• 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 π’„π’‰π’‚π’π’ˆπ’†π’… π’†π’—π’†π’“π’šπ’•π’‰π’Šπ’π’ˆ, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒃𝒆 𝒄𝒓𝒖𝒆𝒍.”

Group B Standings After the Draw

Following the stalemate, Mohammedan sit second in Group B with five points from three matches, level with Forties, who lead the group on goal difference. Bashundhara Kings remain fourth with two points from two games. Police have three points, while Arambagh are yet to open their account.

The top two teams from the group will progress to the next round.

Off-Field Tensions Add Extra Spice

The Kings-Mohammedan rivalry has been intense this season, with disputes over venues and preparation adding to the drama. Tuesday’s fixture was originally scheduled elsewhere but was eventually played in Comilla after administrative and security complications.

Despite all the buildup, the Kings Mohammedan clash delivered high tension but no goalsβ€”leaving fans eager for the next chapter of this fierce domestic rivalry.
