Mumbai Indians’ seasoned pacer Jasprit Bumrah once again proved his mettle in high-pressure situations, delivering a standout performance that helped MI clinch a 20-run victory over Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 Eliminator. Playing at New Chandigarh, Bumrah returned with figures of 1 for 27 in his four overs — maintaining a superb economy rate of 6.75 — and dismissed Washington Sundar with a perfect yorker to break a vital 84-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan.
Bumrah’s spell turned the momentum in MI’s favor as they restricted GT to 208/6 in response to their imposing total of 228/5. With this win, MI have advanced to face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where the winner will secure a place in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on June 3.
“This Game Isn’t Over Until Bumrah Finishes Bowling”: AB de Villiers
Speaking about Bumrah’s impact, former South Africa legend AB de Villiers praised the star pacer’s ability to change the course of knockout games.
“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒖𝒑 𝒊𝒏 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒔 𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒇𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅. 𝑵𝒐 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒈𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑮𝑻 𝒂 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒇𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑴𝑰 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒆 – 𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝑱𝒂𝒔𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒕 𝑩𝒖𝒎𝒓𝒂𝒉, 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑𝒔 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒊𝒈 𝒎𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔,” 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒅𝒆 𝑽𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝑱𝒊𝒐𝑯𝒐𝒕𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓.
He also highlighted MI skipper Hardik Pandya’s strategic move of holding Bumrah back for the crucial overs.

AB de Villiers further mentioned that Sai Sudharsan’s dismissal to Richard Gleeson in the 16th over was another major moment in the match. Despite Gujarat Titans making a fight of it, dropped catches and untimely errors sealed their fate.
