IPL 2025: An orange alert has been issued due to rain in Kolkata, due to which the opening match of IPL 2025 may be cancelled.
The tournament that cricket lovers were waiting for is now going to start soon. IPL 2025 is going to start from Saturday, March 22. The first match of the tournament will be played between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens. However, rain may spoil the excitement of the fans.
An orange alert has been issued due to rain in Kolkata, due to which this match is likely to be cancelled. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms, lightning and rain in Kolkata till March 22 due to an anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. In such a situation, if it rains on the evening of March 22, then the match may be cancelled.
IMD issued orange alert in Kolkata
The IMD said, “A trough lies from central Odisha to Vidarbha, and due to the above trough and anticyclonic circulation at lower tropospheric levels over the Bay of Bengal, the air is converging over east and adjoining central India. Scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 20 and 21 March.”
The regional weather forecasting agency said, “Thunderstorm activity is likely over districts of West Bengal from 20 to 22 March 2025. Due to the presence of favorable wind pattern and strong moisture ingress from the Bay of Bengal at lower tropospheric levels, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and strong gusty surface winds are likely over some districts of West Bengal during 20-22 March 2025.”
The first match of IPL 2025 will begin with a spectacular opening ceremony, in which popular singers Shreya Ghoshal, Karan Aujla and actress Disha Patani will be seen performing. However, the orange alert has left the fans a little disappointed.
