After the suspension of IPL 2025 due to the military conflict between India and Pakistan, the BCCI has begun preparations for the league’s resumption. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, along with the franchises, has started reaching out to overseas players, requesting their return as the situation stabilizes.
The main hurdle facing the IPL’s restart is the return of international players, many of whom left India amid rising security concerns. However, with a ceasefire agreement now in place, the BCCI is hopeful that the tournament can resume by May 15, pending government approval.
For Gujarat Titans, who have been among the strongest teams this season, only Jos Buttler and Gerald Coetzee had exited the squad. “We are making active efforts to bring them back,” an internal franchise source confirmed.
There are 12 league matches and 4 playoff games still left in the tournament. Sources within the IPL suggest that most venues are expected to retain their fixtures, except Dharamsala, which might lose its scheduled match due to logistical challenges.
“The broadcasters initially told production units to remain only in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai,” said an IPL source familiar with operations. “But with the ceasefire announcement, they’ve been asked to stay at all the original venues. Dharamsala might be the only one affected.”
Last week’s Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match at Dharamsala was halted midway due to the conflict. Following the closure of Dharamsala airport, both teams had to travel to Delhi via bus and train.
Among the remaining matches, Ahmedabad is slated to host three, Lucknow and Bengaluru two each, while Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Jaipur have one match each. Hyderabad and Kolkata are set to host the playoffs, with Eden Gardens scheduled for the final.
It remains uncertain whether the incomplete match in Dharamsala will resume from the point of suspension or be replayed in full.
