India

India women are set for a week-long preparatory camp in Visakhapatnam before the much-anticipated ICC Women’s World Cup, scheduled to begin on September 30, 2025.

The camp will get underway on August 24, just a day after the team arrives in the coastal city. While the detailed schedule is yet to be confirmed, the camp will feature the entire 15-member squad along with five reserve players.

World Cup 2025: Strategic Preparation in Visakhapatnam

According to reports, players currently involved in the ongoing ‘A’ tour of Australia will directly join the camp in Visakhapatnam after completing the four-day fixture.

Before heading to Vizag, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side underwent a 10-day training program at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where sessions focused on strength and conditioning, skill development, and match simulations.

Visakhapatnam has been strategically chosen as the venue, with India scheduled to face South Africa Women on October 9 and defending champions Australia Women on October 12 at the ACA-VDCA Stadium.

Squad Updates and Key Inclusions

The official squad announcement was made on August 19 in Mumbai by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and women’s selection panel chairperson Neetu David. Notably, Renuka Singh Thakur and Amanjot Kaur have returned from injuries, though Amanjot will be rested for the ODI series prior to the World Cup due to a back concern.

Interestingly, Shafali Verma has been picked for India A’s warm-up fixtures but has been excluded from the main squad. This decision sparked some discussions, given her proven ability in global tournaments.

Former cricketer’s reaction highlighted the importance of India’s preparation:
India has come close twice before, in 2005 and 2017. This camp is not just about practice but about building confidence ahead of the World Cup,” a former player remarked.

India’s Road Ahead

India will launch their World Cup campaign against co-hosts Sri Lanka Women on September 30. Having previously finished runners-up twice, the Women in Blue will be aiming to finally break the jinx and secure their maiden Women’s World Cup title.
