From Bricklayer to World Cup Dreamer: Brazilian Star’s Inspiring Rise

Thiago

Brentford striker Igor Thiago has already carved his name into Premier League history, and now the Brazilian forward is daring to dream of wearing the famous yellow shirt of Brazil at the World Cup.

The 23-year-old made headlines after scoring twice in Brentford’s 3-0 victory over Sunderland on January 7, becoming the highest-scoring Brazilian in a single Premier League season. His goals took him past the previous 15-goal benchmark held by Roberto Firmino, Gabriel Martinelli, and Matheus Cunha.

“𝑰 𝒔𝒂𝒘 𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒐 𝑹𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒅𝒐 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆.”

Thiago said, reflecting on the inspiration that shaped his relentless goal-scoring mindset.

Once an unknown name just three years ago at Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad, Thiago’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. His performances there earned him a move to Club Brugge in 2023, and Brentford’s scouting team quickly took notice. The Premier League club secured him in 2024 for a record £30 million fee, signaling their belief in his potential.

From Bricklaying to Chasing World Cup Glory Thiago

Thiago’s journey has been fueled by resilience as much as talent. After losing his father at just 13, he took on work as a bricklayer and helped in a fruit shop to support his family in Gama, near Brasília, while his mother worked as a cleaner.

“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒚 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚. 𝑰𝒕 𝒕𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒎𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒍𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒕𝒉 𝒔𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒊𝒈 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔,” 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒂𝒈𝒐 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅.

A serious knee injury delayed his Premier League debut, but his comeback has been explosive. He scored on his first appearance against Nottingham Forest, netted in wins over Manchester United and Liverpool, and delivered a hat-trick against Everton before breaking records against Sunderland.

His goals have lifted Brentford to fifth place in the table, just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, igniting hopes of Champions League qualification.

For Thiago, the Premier League was only the beginning. Now, his ultimate ambition is clear:

“𝑹𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑩𝒓𝒂𝒛𝒊𝒍 𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑪𝒖𝒑 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈. 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑰 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆, 𝑰’𝒍𝒍 𝒔𝒂𝒚, 𝒚𝒆𝒔, 𝑰 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒊𝒕.”

From bricklaying in Brazil to rewriting records in England, Igor Thiago’s extraordinary rise continues to inspire — and the World Cup dream now feels closer than ever.
