Haaland Becomes the Quickest Player to Reach a Century
Erling Haaland has rewritten Premier League history by becoming the fastest player ever to reach 100 league goals, surpassing Alan Shearer’s long-standing record. The Norwegian striker hit the milestone during Manchester City’s dramatic 5-4 win over Fulham on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old has been in phenomenal form this season, scoring 20 goals in 19 matches across all competitions. However, he entered the Fulham fixture after three rare goalless appearances, something unusual for a striker of his calibre.
Haaland responded in style, guiding in Jeremy Doku’s cross with a composed finish to bring up his Premier League century.
“The 100 club is special. Doing it this quickly is unbelievable,” Haaland told BBC Match of the Day. “I’m proud and happy. A striker at City must score—it’s my job.”
Alongside his goal, Haaland struck the post twice and contributed two assists in a dominant performance.
Guardiola Calls Haaland’s Rise ‘Incredible’
With 15 league goals already this season, Haaland leads the Premier League scoring charts, well ahead of Brentford’s Igor Thiago. Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, he has collected milestone after milestone, but eclipsing Shearer’s record in just 111 matches is one of his biggest achievements yet. Shearer required 124 games to hit 100 goals.
While his pace is remarkable, Haaland still faces the monumental challenge of reaching Shearer’s all-time Premier League tally of 260 goals.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was full of praise:
“What he’s done is simply incredible,” Guardiola said. “He was outstanding—unbelievable today. A fantastic goal and a fantastic performance.”
A Record-Breaking Pace Like No Other
Haaland’s numbers since coming to England are unmatched.
- He set the record for most Premier League goals in a single season with 36 in 2022-23.
- He has reached double-digit goals faster than any striker in three separate seasons.
- His Premier League strike rate surpasses that of every top forward to play in the competition.
Last season, critics suggested he was “losing his edge” after a rough spell that saw him score only once in seven games. Despite this, Haaland still finished the campaign with 34 goals in all competitions, his lowest tally since joining City—yet a number most strikers would dream of.
Now in the 2025-26 season, he already has 15 goals in 14 league games and 20 overall in 19 appearances, proving he is far from slowing down.
With a Manchester City contract running until 2034, Haaland has time on his side. If he maintains anything close to his current scoring rate, surpassing Shearer’s legendary 260-goal record may become a question of when—not if.
