Germany Pull Ahead in Group A as Woltemade Shines

Germany Win – Woltemade Stars with Brace

Germany strengthened their position in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a confident win over Luxembourg, thanks to a brilliant brace from Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade. After a slow and frustrating first half in which Germany struggled to break down a well-organised Luxembourg defence, the breakthrough finally arrived shortly after the interval.

Just four minutes into the second half, Leroy Sané delivered a sharp cross into the box, allowing Woltemade to stretch and poke the ball home for the opening goal.
As one spectator described it, “Germany needed one moment of quality—and Woltemade delivered exactly that.”

Woltemade’s Double Keeps Germany on Top

With momentum on their side, Germany continued to push forward. Their persistence paid off again with just over 20 minutes remaining when Ridle Baku sliced through Luxembourg’s defence with a precise pass. Woltemade met it cleanly, guiding the ball into the net to double Germany’s lead and secure his second of the night.

The goals extend Woltemade’s impressive form, following a six-goal debut season at Newcastle.
Reflecting on the striker’s impact, a team analyst noted,

“He’s becoming a forward who thrives in decisive moments.”

Liverpool star Florian Wirtz came close to adding a third, but his late attempt was blocked by Luxembourg’s defence, who did their best to prevent a bigger scoring margin.

Germany now sit at the top of Group A, level on points with Slovakia but ahead on goal difference. With both sides guaranteed a top-two finish, the automatic qualification spot remains undecided. The decisive clash between Germany and Slovakia will take place on Monday, 17 November, and is expected to determine who secures their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
