The Federation Cup clash between Dhaka Mohammedan and Bashundhara Kings, originally scheduled for December 16 at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Comilla, has been postponed due to logistical and security concerns related to Victory Day celebrations.
Match Rescheduled Due to Victory Day Commitments
December 16 marks Victory Day, and the local administration has planned official programs at the Comilla Stadium on the same day. As a result, hosting the high-profile Federation Cup match there became impossible. In response, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) initially decided to shift the fixture to the National Stadium in Dhaka.
However, with law enforcement agencies heavily engaged nationwide on Victory Day, the BFF proposed staging the match behind closed doors to ensure security.
Mohammedan Rejects Closed-Door Proposal
Dhaka Mohammedan strongly opposed the idea of playing without spectators and formally communicated their stance to the BFF through a letter on Monday.
“𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒃. 𝑾𝒆 𝒅𝒐 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒇𝒂𝒏𝒔.”
The club stated in their communication.
Mohammedan further requested that if security arrangements could not be guaranteed, the match should be rescheduled to another date rather than being held on December 16.
BFF Reconsiders, Match Postponed
Following Mohammedan’s objection, the BFF League Committee Chairman convened a fresh meeting with committee members. After discussions, a majority of members expressed reservations about organizing such a high-profile match without spectators.
“𝑨𝒔 𝒂 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒍𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒖𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒆 𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒇𝒂𝒏𝒔.”
League committee source confirmed.
Consequently, the Bashundhara Kings vs Mohammedan match scheduled for December 16 at the National Stadium has been officially postponed.
New Date and Venue Confirmed
The two teams will now face each other in Comilla next Tuesday, following adjustments to the competition schedule. The match originally planned for that day at the Comilla venue will be moved to the following week.
Meanwhile, the Federation Cup fixture between Fortis and Arambagh Krira Sangha will go ahead as scheduled on December 16 at the Kings Arena.
