Fakhar Zaman Ruled Out of WI Series 2025 with Hamstring Injury

Fakhar Zaman

Pakistan faced a major blow ahead of the series-deciding third T20I against West Indies as seasoned batter Fakhar Zaman was ruled out due to a left hamstring injury. The 35-year-old sustained the injury during the 19th over of the second T20I while chasing a ball in the outfield at Lauderhill. A subsequent medical evaluation confirmed a mild strain.

Fakhar Zaman’s Hamstring Injury Forces Him Out of WI Tour

Due to the injury, Fakhar Zaman will also miss the three-match ODI series in Trinidad. He is scheduled to return to Pakistan on August 4 to begin his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore under the care of PCB’s medical team.

Zaman scored 28 and 20 in the two T20Is, showing promise but failing to convert his starts into substantial scores. This isn’t the first injury setback for the left-hander in 2025—earlier this year, he was also ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to injury. Notably, he had stepped into that squad as a replacement for Saim Ayub, who had also been sidelined with a similar issue.

Pakistan Clinch Series Despite Setbacks

Despite the absence of both Fakhar Zaman and pacer Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan showcased a dominant performance in the third T20I to defeat West Indies by 13 runs and seal the series 2-1.

After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat and posted a formidable total of 189/4. Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub laid the foundation with a commanding 138-run partnership. Farhan scored 74 off 53, while Ayub smashed 66 off 49 deliveries. Quickfire contributions from Hasan Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf boosted the total past 180.

In response, the West Indies fought valiantly, led by Alick Athanaze (60 off 40) and Sherfane Rutherford (51 off 35). However, disciplined bowling from Haris Rauf, Sufiyan Muqeem, and Saim Ayub restricted the hosts to 176/6.
