Fairyhouse Gets Green Light for Sunday Races

Fairyhouse

Sunday’s races at Fairyhouse, including two top-level Grade 1 events, will go ahead as planned after the track was found to be in good condition.

Saturday’s races were cancelled because of heavy rain, which left parts of the course waterlogged. Officials inspected the track early Sunday morning at 7:30am, and things had improved enough to allow racing.

Brendan Sheridan, the clerk of the course, confirmed in a video on X that the track was ready. He said, “The track is fit for racing, we’re good to go. Thankfully, we had less than 2mm of rain since yesterday.”

The ground is soft to heavy. There’s fresh turf for the hurdle races all three days and also fresh ground for the chase races on Sunday and Monday.

The weather is expected to stay dry today, with possible showers on Monday and Tuesday.

Sunday’s main races include the WillowWarm Gold Cup at 2:22pm and the Honeysuckle Mares Novice Hurdle at 4:10pm. The big event, the Irish Grand National, will take place on Monday at 5:00pm.
