Sciver-Brunt Set to Lead Despite Recent Injury
Nat Sciver-Brunt is expected to captain England’s women’s team in their upcoming three-match ODI series against India, even after missing the final T20Is due to a groin injury sustained during the second match. In her absence, Tammy Beaumont led the side in the third T20I at The Oval, where England clinched a tight five-run victory to stay alive in the series, now trailing 2-1.
The England selectors are hopeful Sciver-Brunt will be fit for the ODI opener at the Utilita Bowl on July 16, followed by matches at Lord’s on July 19 and Chester-le-Street on July 22.
Ecclestone Returns, Bouchier and Filer Included
Sophie Ecclestone, who missed the recent ODIs against West Indies due to injury, returns to the squad, replacing legspinner Sarah Glenn. Batter Maia Bouchier, who recently joined the T20I squad as Sciver-Brunt’s replacement, retains her place in the ODI lineup.
Pace bowler Lauren Filer, who clocked the fastest recorded over in women’s cricket during the third T20I, also remains in the squad. She’s continuing her return from a knee injury.
Charlotte Edwards Praises Team Grit and Growth
Despite two heavy defeats in the opening T20Is, England showed fight in their third match win, something that delighted new head coach Charlotte Edwards. She acknowledged the ongoing development phase the team is in.

She emphasized that the ODI series will serve both as a confidence booster and crucial preparation for the Women’s World Cup in India later this year.
