England’s Under-21 side kept their flawless start to Euro 2027 qualifying alive with a hard-fought 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland at St Andrew’s Stadium in Birmingham. Goals from Divin Mubama and Tyrique George secured four wins from four matches for Lee Carsley’s team despite challenging wet and windy conditions.

The first half saw limited clear-cut chances, with England awarded a penalty after Chelsea forward Tyrique George was brought down in the box. Mubama, however, failed to convert, sending his effort straight to the goalkeeper. Chelsea’s Jamie Gittens also had a header blocked, leaving England frustrated in the opening 45 minutes.

“It was tricky conditions, but the lads showed real character to keep pressing and get the win we needed,” Carsley told reporters after the match.

Second-Half Breakthrough

England’s breakthrough came in the second half when Lewis Hall was fouled, earning another penalty. This time, Mubama calmly slotted the ball home, redeeming his earlier miss and putting the hosts ahead.

The Republic of Ireland tried to respond, with Jacob Devaney testing England’s defense, but his shot went over the bar. England sealed the win in the closing minutes as Tyrique George rifled in a powerful strike, giving the side breathing room and confirming the 2-0 victory.

“Scoring the second goal late on was huge for us. It gave the team confidence and ensured all three points,” George said.

With the win, England sit second in Group D on 12 points, one behind Slovakia, who have played a game more. The Republic of Ireland remain third with seven points, keeping the race for qualification competitive.
