Dewald Brevis

Former South African legend AB de Villiers recently spoke highly of young sensation Dewald Brevis, praising his immense potential and comparing him to himself in terms of aggressive playing style. De Villiers, who recently led South Africa Champions to victory in the 2025 World Championship of Legends, highlighted Brevis as a rising star who could transform into a 360-degree player.

Speaking to YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra, de Villiers said,

“𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝑨𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂, 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒔𝒂𝒚 𝑫𝒆𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒅 𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒔 (𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 360-𝒅𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆)… 𝑯𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒓 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕. 𝑯𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏.”

De Villiers Disappointed Brevis Chose CSK Over RCB

While lauding Brevis’ talent, de Villiers also expressed his regret over Dewald Brevis playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) instead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), a franchise de Villiers served for over a decade in the IPL.

“𝑯𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑪𝑺𝑲 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝑹𝑪𝑩, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒆,” 𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒅, 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝑹𝑪𝑩 𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒓𝒔.

At just 22, Dewald Brevis made his international debut for South Africa in August 2023. He has represented the national side in two Tests and seven T20Is so far. Though yet to debut in ODIs, he has played 25 List A games and remains one of the most exciting young prospects in South African cricket.

Solid IPL and International Performances Highlight Brevis’ Growth

In the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League, Brevis was picked by CSK for INR 2.2 crore as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh. Despite CSK having a forgettable season, Dewald Brevis impressed with the bat, scoring 225 runs at a strike rate of 180.

He also featured in the Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Nation Series, where he delivered consistent performances, surpassing the 30-run mark in four of the six games while maintaining an impressive strike rate of 187.32.

Brevis is now gearing up for the white-ball series against Australia, which includes three T20Is and three ODIs. The tour is set to kick off on August 10 at Marrara Oval in Darwin.
