Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez are officially stepping into the next chapter of their long-standing relationship. After nine years together, the couple has decided to marry, with Georgina revealing her stunning engagement ring on August 11 through an Instagram post. Reports suggest the wedding could take place after July 19, 2026, as indicated by Spanish journalist Alberto Guzmán.

However, what was meant to be a fairytale moment has stirred controversy, as jewelry experts have questioned Ronaldo’s choice of ring, calling it unsuitable as an engagement piece.

Jewelry Expert Labels Ronaldo’s Ring the “Wrong Choice”

Spanish jeweler Juana Garcia Sanchez, speaking to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, criticized the design. According to her, the oversized stone makes it impractical for daily wear.

“𝑨𝒔 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒖𝒔𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝒓𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔,” 𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒛 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒅. “𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 40 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒔, 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒕 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒂 𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈. 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒕𝒐𝒐 𝒍𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆, 𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒔 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕.”

She further explained the difference between a cocktail and an engagement ring:

“𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒂 𝒄𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒍 𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒄𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔. 𝑨𝒏 𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒚𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒐𝒓 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒈𝒐𝒍𝒅, 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒅𝒂𝒚, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒚𝒎𝒃𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄 𝒐𝒇 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚.”

From Cocktail Rings to Engagement Rings: The Debate

Experts have also highlighted the historical distinction between cocktail rings and traditional engagement rings. While engagement rings, tracing back to ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman traditions, are usually minimalistic and comfortable, cocktail rings became popular in the United States during the 1920s as bold fashion statements. Women wore them with glamorous outfits to express independence and individuality.

Despite the criticism, Ronaldo’s grand gesture has captured global attention. The 40-year-old football star had hinted at marriage in Georgina’s Netflix series I Am Georgina, where he said, “When the right moment comes, it will happen.”

That moment seems to have finally arrived. On August 11, Georgina shared a photo of herself wearing a striking emerald-cut diamond ring along with the caption: “Yes, I agree. In this life and in all my other lives.”

The Extravagant Gifts Beyond the Ring

Speculation about the ring’s weight and cost began immediately after the announcement. Experts estimate it to be between 10–15 carats and worth no less than $1 million. Journalist Guzmán further reported that Ronaldo showered Georgina with additional luxury gifts alongside the ring.

“𝑹𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒅𝒐 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈,” 𝑮𝒖𝒛𝒎á𝒏 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒅. “𝑯𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒈𝒊𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒂 𝑷𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒆, 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒍𝒖𝒙𝒖𝒓𝒚 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔 𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒕 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 €50,000, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒘𝒐 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒇𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 €30,000.”

While opinions remain divided on Ronaldo’s ring choice, the couple’s engagement continues to be celebrated by fans worldwide, marking a new milestone in their high-profile love story.
