Pujara open to return if team needs him
Team India’s experienced Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has expressed his willingness to make a comeback for the India vs England Test series if the national team requires his services. With over 7,000 Test runs and a reputation for anchoring India’s innings in difficult conditions, Pujara has long been a cornerstone of India’s Test lineup.
Speaking to Revsportz, the Saurashtra cricketer said,
“If the team needs me and I get a chance, I am ready. I am training hard, maintaining my fitness levels, and doing well in domestic cricket. If I get the opportunity, I’ll do everything I can to help the team win in English conditions.”
Cheteshwar Pujara’s recent performances and mindset
Since being dropped after the WTC Final 2023, Pujara has stayed focused, continuing to perform for Saurashtra and Sussex in domestic and county cricket respectively. He believes his current form and experience make him a strong candidate for India’s number 3 batting position, which has since been filled by Shubman Gill.
The 37-year-old said,
“I have learned from failures and I’m focusing on what I can control. I draw motivation from my past match-winning knocks, and I’m always ready to contribute whenever the team requires it.”
Importance of England tour and Pujara’s value
India hasn’t won a Test series in England in two decades, making the 2025 tour especially crucial. Pujara acknowledged this historical context, saying, “This is a perfect time for me to contribute again. Winning in England means a lot, and I want to be there for Team India if called upon.”
Known for his solid technique and ability to play long innings in seaming conditions, Pujara believes he still brings value to India’s red-ball setup. His Test cricket stats—103 matches, 7195 runs at an average of over 43—underscore his quality.
Cheteshwar Pujara’s comeback hopes remain alive
Pujara maintains his positive attitude and mental toughness despite not being included in the Indian Test team.
“Cricket is my passion. Whether it’s for Saurashtra or Sussex, I play with the same commitment. If selected, I will ensure I’m at my best for India’s Test matches in England.”
His resilience, experience in foreign conditions, and hunger to return make Cheteshwar Pujara a valuable asset if India looks to strengthen its middle order.
