Heavy Snowfall Forces Cancellation of Two Matches

Bundesliga

Two Bundesliga matches were officially postponed on Saturday after heavy snowfall created serious safety concerns at stadiums across Germany’s top football league.

St. Pauli’s home clash against RB Leipzig in Hamburg was the first to be called off. A few hours later, the league confirmed that Werder Bremen’s match against Hoffenheim would also not go ahead.

Stadium Conditions Force Postponements Bundesliga

St. Pauli said extensive efforts were made to ensure the match could be played safely, but conditions proved too dangerous. Snow accumulation on the stadium roof became increasingly difficult to remove, raising alarm among authorities.

The club added that cancelling the match would ease pressure on emergency services, transport systems, and healthcare facilities. Leipzig currently sits fourth in the 18-team Bundesliga table, while St. Pauli is battling near the bottom in 16th place.

In Bremen, officials reached a similar conclusion. The club stated that snow and ice had blocked emergency exits at the 42,000-seat stadium, while travel conditions posed risks for supporters.
