The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced plans to hold a short workshop in August for national team players, following recent allegations against senior fast bowler Taskin Ahmed. The initiative aims to educate cricketers on their public responsibilities, proper conduct, and maintaining a positive image as role models in the country.
The move comes after a General Diary (GD) was filed at the Mirpur Model Police Station, accusing Taskin of assaulting and threatening Sifatur Rahman Sourave, a childhood acquaintance. According to the report, Taskin allegedly called Sifatur to a location near Sony Cinema Hall in Dhaka on Sunday night, where the altercation occurred. Later, police clarified that the incident took place in the Asad Gate area under the Mohammadpur Police Station.
BCB Awaits Investigation Before Taking Action
BCB’s media and communication committee chairman, Iftekhar Ahmed, addressed the issue, stating that the board would wait for the legal proceedings to unfold before taking any disciplinary steps.

Taskin has denied the allegations in a Facebook post, asserting that the situation had been misrepresented and asking fans not to jump to conclusions.
BCB Workshop to Reinforce Players’ Social Responsibility
The BCB’s upcoming workshop will emphasize the behavioral standards expected of national athletes, especially given their influence on young fans.
“We are planning to hold a short workshop with national cricketers in August,” Iftekhar added. “We must remind them what they can and cannot do. They are not just cricketers — they are idols to many youngsters and have some accountability towards their fans.”
The police investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected in the coming days.
