BCB Elections Set for October 6 Amid Tamim Iqbal’s Allegations

BCB Elections: Tamim Iqbal Raises Concerns Over Interference

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced that its upcoming elections will take place on October 6. During this process, the general members, known as councillors, will elect 23 of the 25 board directors, while the BCB president will be chosen from the full pool of 25 directors for a four-year term.

The announcement comes shortly after former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal accused BCB president Aminul Islam of meddling in the electoral process.

Tamim Raises Concerns Over Election Interference

Tamim, who recently declared his candidacy, held a press briefing in Dhaka alongside other aspirants and former board members. He criticized Aminul for extending the nomination deadline unilaterally, which he claimed violated BCB regulations.

“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝑪𝑩 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒘𝒊𝒄𝒆, 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑺𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 17 𝒕𝒐 𝑺𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 19, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝑺𝒆𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 22. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒉𝒊𝒎𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇, 𝒃𝒚𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒇 𝒆𝒙𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆, 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒈𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒓,” 𝑻𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒎 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅.

He further questioned the ad-hoc committee responsible for nominating board representatives from the eight divisions and 64 districts. According to Tamim, the committee’s setup contradicts the BCB constitution.

“Typically, councillors are nominated through district administrations by experienced sports organisers. This time, only the ad-hoc committee’s approval counts, and people have been added or removed arbitrarily. If elections are run this way, it’s no longer a proper election but a selection. Elections must be fair and open to everyone,” he added.

Election Structure and Timeline

The election will follow three categories:

Additionally, the Bangladesh government will appoint two directors to the board.

Tamim urged authorities to maintain the original councillors’ list published on September 17, emphasizing that cricket should remain inclusive.

“𝑰 𝒉𝒐𝒑𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒍𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒓𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒅. 𝑪𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒕 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆, 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒓 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒑. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆,” 𝑻𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒎 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒅.

The draft voter list will be published on September 22, followed by the final list on September 25, ahead of the October 6 elections.
