Bangladesh Women clinched a dramatic one-run victory over Sri Lanka in their World Cup warm-up match in Colombo. Sharmin Akhter’s composed 71 with the bat and Nahida Akter’s late strikes with the ball proved decisive in a tense contest.
“Matches like these test the nerves, and today Bangladesh showed immense character,” a team insider remarked.
Sharmin Leads with the Bat, Nahida Strikes with the Ball
Batting first, Bangladesh posted 242 for 8, built on a steady 90-run partnership between Rubya Haider and Sharmin. Sharmin’s 71 was the highlight, while Sri Lanka’s Kavisha Dilhari (2-24) led their bowling effort.
Chasing 243, Sri Lanka appeared in control at 218 for 5, thanks to Nilakshika Silva (75) and Dilhari (63). But Nahida Akter turned the game on its head in the death overs, taking three key wickets. In the final over, Marufa Akter held her nerve to defend nine runs, sealing a famous one-run win.
“It was a collective fightback, and the belief never faded,” said captain Nigar Sultana after the victory.
