Historic Night as Bangladesh Stun Bhutan in Futsal Debut Victory

Futsal

The SAFF Men’s and Women’s Futsal Championship is underway in Bangkok, Thailand, and Bangladesh finally found their breakthrough moment. The men’s team registered a convincing 4-1 victory over Bhutan in their third group match, while the women’s side, led by Sabina Khatun, earlier battled to a 3-3 draw against Bhutan.

Bangladesh took early control of the men’s match, racing to a 2-0 lead before halftime. Moin was the standout performer, netting both goals to put his side firmly in charge.

From Setbacks to First International Futsal Win

Bhutan pushed back strongly after the break, even striking the post during a promising attack. However, Bangladesh stayed composed. Faisal extended the lead to 3-1, and Ibrahim sealed the result with a late goal to confirm a historic victory.

The win came amid off-field challenges, as vice-captain Intishar Mustafa was dropped from the squad during the tournament. Despite the disruption, the players responded with resilience on the court.

“𝑾𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒌 𝒖𝒔,” 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒅.

Bangladesh’s men’s futsal team made their international debut last year at the Asian Futsal Championship in Malaysia, where they failed to register a win. In this SAFF campaign, they had drawn with India and lost to the Maldives before finally celebrating their first-ever futsal victory.

Six SAFF nations are competing in both divisions. The women’s team has recorded one win and one draw so far, while the men now stand with one win, one draw, and one defeat. The top team after five matches will be crowned champions, and Bangladesh’s women are set to face Nepal next.
