Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed found himself in disbelief after a bizarre turn of events during the first T20I against the West Indies at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Monday. The right-arm seamer was dismissed hit-wicket immediately after sending the ball soaring for six, creating one of the most unusual dismissals in recent memory.
Taskin Ahmed’s stunning six turns into a shocking dismissal
With Bangladesh needing 17 runs off the final three deliveries, Taskin aimed to keep his team alive in the contest. Facing Romario Shepherd, he shuffled deep into the crease and hammered a powerful shot over mid-wicket for a massive six. However, while completing his swing, his back foot clipped the stumps, dislodging the bails. Initially celebrating his shot, Taskin’s joy turned into disbelief as the West Indies players erupted in celebration, sealing their 16-run victory dramatically.
Litton Das admits Bangladesh ‘failed in slog overs’
Earlier, Shai Hope (46)* and Rovman Powell (44)* guided West Indies to a competitive 165/3, putting on an unbeaten 83-run stand for the fourth wicket. Powell, who was playing his 100th T20I, smashed three consecutive sixes in the final over, helping the visitors finish on a strong note. Bangladesh’s bowlers started well, with Taskin picking 2 for 36, but struggled to contain runs in the death overs, conceding 51 in the last three.
In reply, Bangladesh’s chase faltered early, losing four wickets in the powerplay. Tanzid Hasan looked promising, but the lack of partnerships hurt the hosts. Lower-order cameos from Tanzim Hasan Sakib (33) and Nasum Ahmed (20) provided brief hope, but Jason Holder (3/31) and Jayden Seales (3/32) ensured West Indies stayed in control.
Speaking after the match, skipper Litton Das accepted that the team fell short in their execution during crucial moments.
