In a disturbing incident, two members of the Australia Women’s cricket team were reportedly followed and harassed by a local man while returning to their hotel in Indore. The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, October 23, as the players made their way back from a café to the Radisson Blu Hotel, where the squad is staying ahead of their final league match in the Women’s World Cup 2025 on Saturday.

The team’s security manager, Danny Simmons, lodged a complaint at the M.I.G. Police Station the same evening. According to reports from The Times of India, a suspect was identified through CCTV footage and booked under charges of “outraging modesty and stalking.” Investigations are currently underway, and local authorities have assured the team of their safety.

Security Concerns for Global Events in India

The incident has raised serious questions about the security arrangements for overseas players during major tournaments. Experts say that in events like the World Cup, both the ICC and the host board—in this case, BCCI—must coordinate closely with local law enforcement to ensure players’ safety while on duty abroad. Such steps not only safeguard players but also enhance India’s reputation as a reliable host for international cricket.

Local citizens are also urged to provide a welcoming and safe environment for visiting teams. “Cricket is a passion here, but incidents like this can discourage teams from traveling to India for global tournaments or bilateral series,” a cricket analyst noted.

Australia Women, led by Alyssa Healy, have already secured a semi-final spot and are aiming to finish at the top of the points table. They are set to face South Africa Women on Saturday, before taking on India in the semi-final at Navi Mumbai on October 30.
