Even a month after India’s Asia Cup 2025 triumph, the winning team is yet to receive the coveted trophy. India clinched the title by defeating Pakistan in the final on September 28 in Dubai, but the silverware remains mysteriously unclaimed — sparking growing concern among fans and officials alike.
Asia Cup Trophy Reportedly Moved from ACC Office
Recent reports reveal that the Asia Cup trophy was allegedly removed from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headquarters and locked inside an abandoned facility in Abu Dhabi by ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The revelation has triggered a major controversy, raising questions over the handling of official tournament property.
A BCCI source reportedly stated,
“𝑾𝒆’𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝑪𝑪 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒔 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆.”
Dispute Over Presentation Ceremony
The trouble began during the post-match presentation when the Indian team refused to accept the trophy directly from Naqvi. The players reportedly objected to his dual role as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, viewing it as inappropriate for an ACC event meant to represent neutral governance.
Following the incident, Naqvi allegedly took the trophy and secured it in his Dubai office before later transferring it elsewhere. Reports suggest he demanded a formal handover ceremony where India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, would personally receive the trophy from him — a condition the BCCI has firmly declined.
A senior BCCI official was quoted as saying,
“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒔𝒊𝒂 𝑪𝒖𝒑 𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒆𝒅𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝑪𝑪 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒑𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒚.”
Tensions Rise Between ACC and BCCI
The controversy deepened when Naqvi reportedly complained to ICC members, claiming he was humiliated after Indian players declined to approach him on stage. In response, the BCCI has warned against politicising the issue, urging for a professional and transparent resolution.
Meanwhile, India’s on-field dominance remains undisputed. The Men in Blue remained unbeaten throughout the Asia Cup 2025, capping their stellar campaign with a memorable win over Pakistan in the final at Dubai International Stadium.
