Arsenal delivered a powerful end to the year with a commanding 4-1 win over Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium, tightening their hold at the top of the Premier League table. Although Villa arrived as one of the season’s standout teams, it was Arsenal’s ruthless finishing that ultimately separated the two sides.
The highly anticipated clash between teams placed in the top three remained scoreless at halftime, but the second half saw a flood of goals from the hosts. Gabriel Magalhães, Martin Zubimendi, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Jesus all found the net, while Ollie Watkins scored a late consolation for Villa.

Second-Half Blitz Overwhelms Aston Villa
Arsenal broke the deadlock just three minutes after the restart when Gabriel Magalhães capitalised on a defensive lapse from goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, turning in a loose ball from a corner. The momentum quickly swung in Arsenal’s favour.
Four minutes later, Zubimendi doubled the advantage, calmly finishing after a perfectly weighted through ball from Martin Ødegaard. Villa struggled to regain control as Arsenal maintained relentless pressure.

In the 69th minute, Trossard unleashed a powerful strike from outside the box, with the ball crashing in off the post. Moments later, substitute Gabriel Jesus made an immediate impact, slotting home from close range after another assist from Trossard.
Watkins managed to pull one back in stoppage time, but it did little to change the outcome as Villa fell well short of their usual standards.
Arsenal Tightens Grip at the Top
Despite having 48 percent possession, Arsenal registered 19 shots, seven of which were on target. Villa, who enjoyed slightly more of the ball, managed just two shots on target from nine attempts.
The victory keeps Arsenal top of the Premier League with 45 points from 19 matches. Manchester City sit second with 40 points and a game in hand, while Aston Villa remain third with 39 points.
As the year closes, Arsenal’s emphatic win sends a clear message to their title rivals — the Gunners mean business.
