South America’s powerhouse, Argentina, is looking to sharpen its squad before the 2026 World Cup with a high-profile friendly. After their finals clash against European champions Spain, whose date remains uncertain, they want to face another formidable opponent in March next year. Senegal has emerged as a prime candidate, and the Senegalese Football Federation has confirmed receiving an official offer from Argentina.

“The process of finalizing an offer from Argen for the March 2026 window is underway,” a Senegalese Football Federation spokesperson said. “We are prioritizing Argentina over other proposals, including one from Saudi Arabia.”

Senegal: A Formidable Test for Argentina

Senegal has a history of surprising the football world. In the 2002 World Cup, they stunned reigning champions France and made it all the way to the quarter-finals. They also reached the last 16 in the previous World Cup. Already scheduled to face the United States, Senegal is now eager to test itself against Argen before the tournament.

“This is a perfect opportunity for both teams to prepare for the World Cup,” the Senegalese federation added. “Playing Argentina will provide our squad with a top-level challenge ahead of the tournament.”

World Cup Groups for Both Teams

Argentina has been drawn in a group with Algeria, Austria, and Jordan. Meanwhile, Senegal will face a challenging group including 2018 World Cup winners France, Norway, and the winner of the play-off between Bolivia, Suriname, and Iraq. This friendly is expected to give both nations a strong competitive edge before the tournament kicks off.
