Argentina

Argentina has two crucial matches coming up this month. They will face two of the continent’s biggest rivals, Uruguay and Brazil, in World Cup qualifiers. March is shaping up to be a tough month for Argentina. But ahead of such a tough schedule, there are changes coming to the Argentina coaching panel.

Daniel Kanué was the goalkeeper coach of Argentina’s Copa America-winning team in 2024. He coached Emiliano Martinez and Geronimo Rulli along with Martin Tocalli. But the goalkeeper coach is set to leave his position in the first week of March. Kanué is leaving the coaching of the Argentina national team and returning to Mexican football.

The news was confirmed by Argentina’s other goalkeeper coach, Martin Tocalli. He was the one who published Kanué’s final words on social media. Kanué, a member of the coaching staff of the Copa America-winning team, said in his farewell speech, “We don’t know how long we will be in the same place. But we can choose how to take the next step. It was an extraordinary episode, which will never be forgotten.”

After leaving the Argentine national team, Canue is joining the coaching staff of Mexican club Tigres. Former Argentine footballer Guido Pizarro is currently there. Defensive midfielder Pizarro played for Argentina from 2017 to 2019.

In his farewell speech, Kanué said, “I am truly grateful to have been part of the Argentine Football Association. The decision to end this phase was not easy. However, I believe that each cycle has a specific time and purpose. I am leaving with the pride of learning, experience and fulfilling a dream.”

Martin Tocalli will serve as Argentina’s goalkeeping coach after Daniel Kanu’s departure. The Albiceleste’s next match is against Uruguay on the morning of March 22 (Bangladesh time). The next match is on the morning of March 26 (Bangladesh time). Where their opponent is Brazil.
