Guyana Amazon Warriors soared to the top of the Global Super League table after dismantling Dubai Capitals by 57 runs in a one-sided contest at Guyana. Imran Tahir starred with the ball, overshadowing a spirited effort from Kaleem Sana.
Moeen and Rutherford Anchor Warriors’ Innings
Opting to bat first, the Amazon Warriors overcame early setbacks to post 138 for 7. Moeen Ali played a steady hand, scoring 40 runs off 38 balls to stabilize the innings after the team slipped to 27 for 3 during the powerplay.
Sherfane Rutherford injected momentum with a lively 33 off 23 deliveries, while Romario Shepherd’s late flourish of 15 runs off nine balls ensured the total crept past 130.
Kaleem Sana was the pick of the Capitals’ attack, claiming 4 for 31, including three wickets in the death overs. Reflecting on his spell, Sana said:
“𝑰 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒊𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒕𝒉𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒗𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒎𝒚 𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒆. 𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒐𝒅𝒂𝒚.”
Capitals’ Batting Collapse Seals Their Fate
In response, Dubai Capitals never found their footing. The openers fell cheaply and the middle order was dismantled under relentless pressure. Dwaine Pretorius and Shepherd set the tone early, with Shepherd removing two batters in his second over.
Tahir then produced a vintage display, snaring 4 for 12 in just 3.4 overs. His clever variations proved too much for the Capitals, who slumped from 36 for 1 to 66 for 8 in no time.
Niroshan Dickwella’s 26 was the only notable contribution, and a quick-fire stand of 27 off 12 balls with Sediqullah Atal offered brief resistance. But once that partnership ended, the Capitals’ innings unraveled rapidly.
Tahir, reflecting on his performance, said:
“𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒚. 𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒏.”
Dubai Capitals were eventually dismissed for just 81 in 15.4 overs, giving the Amazon Warriors a resounding win that lifted them to the top of the standings.
