Alyssa Healy

Australian cricketer Alyssa Healy has revealed that if given a choice between Adam Gilchrist and MS Dhoni for wicketkeeping guidance, she would choose the former Indian captain.

The 35-year-old explained that her preference for Dhoni stems from a desire to explore “something new”, having already had plenty of in-depth conversations with Gilchrist over the years.

“𝑴𝑺 𝑫𝒉𝒐𝒏𝒊. 𝑩𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔 𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝑮𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒚,” 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒚 𝒕𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝑳𝒊𝑺𝑻𝑵𝑹 𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕. “𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑮𝒊𝒍𝒄𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕, 𝑰 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒉𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑰 𝒄𝒂𝒏, 𝒔𝒐 𝒍𝒆𝒕’𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒆𝒘.”

Alyssa Healy chose Dhoni Over Gilchrist. Why?

While Alyssa Healy acknowledged Gilchrist as a tremendous source of insight throughout her career, she is eager to tap into Dhoni’s unique perspective and extensive experience behind the stumps.

Dhoni and Gilchrist are widely celebrated as two of the greatest wicketkeepers in cricket history. Dhoni ended his international career with 829 dismissals — 634 catches and a remarkable 195 stumpings — while Gilchrist boasts a higher tally of 905 dismissals, including 813 catches and 92 stumpings.

Dhoni’s Recent IPL Journey and Future Plans

The conversation around Dhoni comes at a time when his future in the Indian Premier League remains a hot topic. Ahead of the 2025 season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained him for ₹4 crore under the ‘uncapped player’ category. When regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an injury midway through the season, the 44-year-old stepped up to lead the side once again.

Since the season ended, speculation has grown about whether Dhoni will feature in IPL 2026.

“𝙈𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙎𝙆, 𝙬𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬, 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙭𝙩 15–20 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨,” 𝘿𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙞 𝙟𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙, 𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙙. “𝙄 𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙄’𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 15–20 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨! 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙚𝙨, 𝙄’𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙗𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙮𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙟𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙮 — 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙄’𝙢 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙧 𝙣𝙤𝙩.”

His statement has kept fans guessing, but one thing is certain — MS Dhoni’s legacy with CSK is far from over, whether on the field or off it.
