Gautam Gambhir Promises Abhimanyu Easwaran a Fair Run in Team India

Abhimanyu Easwaran Gautam Gambhir assures long run

Abhimanyu Easwaran’s father, Ranganathan Easwaran, has revealed that India head coach Gautam Gambhir assured his son of a fair chance in the national side. Although Abhimanyu was part of India’s squads for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he is yet to make his international debut.

On the England tour, Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan were preferred ahead of Easwaran, but together they managed only a single half-century each in their combined ten innings.

Father Backs Abhimanyu’s Experience for Top Order Role

Ranganathan believes his son should have batted at the crucial No. 3 position. He highlighted Abhimanyu’s experience of playing on green pitches at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, which could have been valuable in England conditions.

“𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝑨𝒃𝒉𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒖 𝒂𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏. 𝑯𝒆’𝒔 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 30% 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒕 𝑬𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝑮𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒔, 𝒂 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒌, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒔 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓,” 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅.

He also questioned the team’s decision-making in batting order selection.

“𝑲𝒂𝒓𝒖𝒏 𝑵𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏; 𝒉𝒆’𝒔 𝒖𝒔𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒕 𝑵𝒐. 4 𝒐𝒓 5 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑽𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒃𝒉𝒂. 𝑺𝒖𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒍𝒚, 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒃𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒓 𝒇𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓, 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒎𝒚 𝒔𝒐𝒏, 𝒂 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓, 𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒇𝒕 𝒐𝒖𝒕.”

Easwaran received his first Test call-up in December 2022 for the Bangladesh series. However, 15 players have debuted ahead of him since then. He will now be eyeing opportunities in the upcoming Test series against West Indies and South Africa.
