Former Bangladesh left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak has stepped down from his role as a national selector to participate in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections. The 43-year-old has officially collected his nomination papers and will contest as a director candidate from the Khulna division on October 6.
Razzak, one of Bangladeshβs most successful bowlers, represented the country in 13 Tests, 153 ODIs, and 34 T20Is, and still ranks as the third-highest wicket-taker in ODIs for his nation. He is among 61 nominees vying for 23 director positions in the elections.
Election Landscape and Razzakβs Statement
The upcoming election will see 23 of the 25 board directors chosen by the councillors, while the BCB president will be elected from the pool of 25 directors for a four-year term. Notably, incumbent president Aminul Islam and former captain Tamim Iqbal have both confirmed their candidacy for the top role.
In his resignation note, Razzak shared his reflections:

Razzak had joined the selection panel in 2021 and became one of the two key selectors after Hannan Sarkarβs resignation in 2023, working closely with chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain.
Ashraf praised his colleagueβs efforts, stating:
