Senegal booked their semi-final ticket with a narrow 1–0 win over Mali in a tense opening quarter-final. The match swung in Senegal’s favor after Mali were reduced to ten men in first-half stoppage time, allowing the reigning champions to grind out a vital victory.

Morocco followed with a confident 2–0 triumph over Cameroon. Despite Cameroon enjoying more possession, goals from Brahim Díaz and Ismael Sibiry sealed the win for the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists.

Nigeria showed authority against Algeria, controlling the match from start to finish to claim a 2–0 victory and underline their title ambitions.

Egypt and the Ivory Coast produced the most dramatic contest of the round. Salah inspired the Pharaohs to a 3–2 win, scoring twice as Egypt survived a late Ivorian fightback.

Reflecting on the challenge ahead, one Egyptian official said,

“𝑨𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆, 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒍. 𝑺𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒍 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒑𝒖𝒔𝒉 𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒔.”

A Moroccan camp source added, “Nigeria is strong and disciplined, but we believe this team can go all the way.”
